Join the City of Deerfield Beach along with city leaders, civic organizations and churches, as we pay homage to this great Civil Rights leader. This three-day long event features a choir competition, games and day of service kick off with an exciting parade presented by Arrigo Margate, plus a family-friendly picnic celebrating the birth of Martin Luther King, Jr.

The City is looking for Volunteers to assist with the beautification project of Stanley Terrace and MLK art mural project on the wall dividing the Baseball Fields and Stanley Terrace apartment complex , 445 SW 2nd Street. Those looking to be a volunteer, please click HERE.

Praise & Worship Competition Information

On Sunday, January 19th from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM the Annual Praise & Worship Competition will be held. Each choir will have 5 minutes to perform their best songs. In the end, the judges will decide who gets to go home with the traveling trophy along with $1,000! (Limited to 10 entries, first come, first serve basis.) The winning choir must be available to sing “Lift Every Voice and Sing” at the ceremony on Monday, January 20th at 12:00 PM.

MLK Parade 

Theme - “UNITY"

Thank you for your interest in the 2020 Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade which will be held on Monday, January 20th from 10:30 PM - 12:00 PM. This year the parade will start will be at St. Ambrose Church (380 Federal Hwy); we ask that you check in at 8:30 AM. The parade will begin at 10:00 AM and will go north on US-1 for 0.4 miles and turn left onto E Hillsboro Blvd for 1.1 miles, the parade will then turn left onto SW 3rd Ave/SW Martin Luther King, Jr. Ave for 0.2 miles and conclude at Oveta Mckeithen Recreational Complex (445 SW 2nd St).

Following the MLK parade there will be a battle of the bands and then an awards ceremony at OMRC. Trophies will be given to the winner in each of the below listed categories. Be sure when filling out the application you list the category for which you wish to be considered. Judges will be located on the stage in front of Food Bazaar (202 W Hillsboro Blvd). Please note, it is important for you to provide the names of those that you would like acknowledged by the emcee together with any other information about your entry should you be chosen as a winner.

The City will pay each band up to $700 for their transportation or they will coordinate the transportation for the band.

8:00 AM - 12:00 PM: Art Mural/Beautification Service Project at the wall that divides Stanley Terrace and the OMRC Baseball field (445 SW 2nd St) 

Sunday, January 19th

6:00 PM - 8:00 PM: Praise and Worship Competition at the Leo Robb Gym (445 SW 2nd St) 

Monday, January 20th

10:30 PM - 12:00 PM: MLK Weekend Celebration Parade 
12:00 PM - 1:30 PM: Battle of the Bands

2:30 PM - 4:00 PM: Local bands perform

Complimentary Shuttle Service

Shuttle service will be provided for walkers in the MLK parade from Oveta McKeithen Recreational Complex (445 SW 2nd St.) to St. Ambrose Church (380 Federal Hwy) starting at 8:00 AM. The last shuttle for participants will be at 8:30 AM. If MLK parade presented by participants arrive after 8:30 AM they will need to drive to Pioneer Park as there will no longer be transportation provided before the MLK parade start.

Shuttle service will be provided back to  St. Ambrose Church (380 Federal Hwy) from the Oveta McKeithen Recreational Complex (445 SW 2nd St.) following the conclusion of the MLK parade until 5:00 PM, or when the picnic concludes.
